New Ventures in Glass
SideCar Art and Design is a sister studio to Madacsi Studios. As the younger sibling, SideCar is mentored by the experiences, skills, and relationships gained by Madacsiβs 25 years of studio practice in metalwork and design.
How Did This Happen?
Artist Susan Madacsiβs interest in glass goes back to a 2004 invitational residency (Wood, Glass, and Iron) at Penland. One day she wondered into the Glass Studio from her home base in the Iron Studio and ended up meeting Tim Tate and Sean Hennessey. They taught her a dry plaster casting technique and she was able to cast her forged metalwork into up-cycled window glass. Seeing her work in glass was exciting. Since then, she has been learning techniques that are relevant to her work and how she expresses herself artistically in another medium. Madacsi has found it important to keep expanding her knowledge of materials and techniques in order to maintain curiosity and growth of her artistic practice.
STUDIO GLASS
My studio glass reflects my attraction to color, pattern, and love of storytelling. Just hinting at a narrative prompts the viewer to start perusing their own memories and experiences thereby creating a recollection unique to that person. Objects and images are spring boards to provoking memory and thought. I want my work to have an element of engagement that is personal to the individual perspective and imagination.
EVERYDAY COLLECTION
The Boxie Collection is a series of work that encourages those who are interested in starting or growing a collection of original artwork, but have a modest budget to initiate a large purchase. These pieces are created with the same artistry and craftsmanship as other collections, but are smaller and accessibly priced. Pieces in the Boxie Collection are for those working toward creating their own unique aesthetic space by investing in artwork piece by piece.
ORNAMENTS
Like snowflakes, no two are alike. Handmade glass ornaments make a unique and thoughtful gift, or an artistic addition to your home or holiday decor.
PUBLIC ART
Art creates a communityβs unique identity. I believe design, aesthetic beauty, communication and collaboration are all essential to realizing a successful pubic art project.
